The park features a number of historical exhibits that explore the Columbus military camp raid executed by General Francisco Pancho Villa in 1916. The Silver City Ranger District of the Gila National Forest is comprised of three areas, the Burro Mountain region, the portion just west from Emory Pass of the Black Range and the area surrounding Silver City. These area encompass 402,972 acres of forest used for research, mining, timber harvesting, livestock grazing and recreational activities.

City of Rocks State Park is accessed off State Route 61 in southwestern New Mexico. The park is named after the monolithic rock structures, formed of volcanic ash some 30 million years ago, that are located throughout the landscape. Camping, picnicking and hiking are popular activities here.

This is one of the main attractions in the area; the national park is over five hundred acres in size. The cliffs lie on the edge of the Gila Wilderness and because it's in a national park it will be preserved. Over five hundred people visited the dwellings last year. There are no signs of human habitat in the park.
