Hammel Museum is named in honor of the Hammel family, who traveled to Socorro in the early 1880s and built a brewery. The museum explores the boom period in Socorro from the coming of the railroad in 1880 to the closing of the mines in 1893.

El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro International Heritage Center is located 35 mi (56 km) south of Socorro in the northern Chihuahuan Desert. The facility delves into the history of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, which was commissioned in 1598 and served as the major route of settlement and commerce to and from the Southwest. In addition to exhibits, the center offers a number of educational activities.
